A musical instruement is constructed or used for the purpose of making the sounds of music. In principle, anything that produces sound can serve as a musical instrument. The history of instruments dates back to the beginnings of human culture. The academic study of musical instruments is called organology.

The date and origin of the first device of disputed status as a musical instrument dates back as far as 67,000 years old; artifacts commonly accepted to be early flutes date back as far as about 37,000 years old. However, most historians believe determining a specific time of musical instrument invention to be impossible due to the subjectivity of the definition.

Musical instruments developed independently in many populated regions of the world. However, contact among civilizations resulted in the rapid spread and adaptation of most instruments in places far from their origin. By the Middle Ages, instruments from Mesopotamia could be found in the Malay Archipelago and Europeans were playing instruments from North Africa. Development in the Americas occurred at a slower pace, but cultures of North, Central, and South America shared musical instruments.

Edward Nino Hernandez of Bogota, Colombia has been named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest man in the world. The 24-year-old Hernandez is 27 inches (70 cm) tall and weighs only 22 pounds. The previous record holder was He Pingping of China, who was slightly taller than Hernandez and died last March. Hernandez is currently working as a actor in a Colombian film in which he plays a “drug thug.”

But Edward Nino Hernandez is going to hold this title only until Oct. 14, when the world's shortest living teen, Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal turns 18. He is even shorter - 22 in (56 cm).

Nature : Artificial or Real ? 2011

Would you be surprised if I told you this beautiful nature is not really  natural? Have you immediately thought of Photoshop? Don't rush to  conclusions. Some people's imagination and talent go far beyond  understanding.

Some of you may have seen our post about amazing works, but this one includes our best works and the making of.

DIY Paradise

Made of cotton, salt, cooked sugar, tin foil, feathers & canvas. 

Icebreaker

25  pounds of sugar cooked at varying temperatures. It's basically made out  of candy, salt, egg whites, corn syrup, cream of tartar, powdered sugar,  blue food coloring, india ink & flour.Three days of cooking, and  two weeks of building.

Everything We Ever Were

It  took two months to store up enough fireplace ash to create this lunar  landscape. The darker rocks are made of mixed tilegrout, flag crumpled  paper and wire. The Earth is a video stilllprojected onto the wall.  Inspired by the Apollo 11 mission.

Tornado is made of steel wool, cotton, ground parsley and moss.

Paprika Mars

Made out of 12 pounds paprika, cinnamon, nutmeg, chili powder and charcoal

Breaking Point

Volcano  made out of tile grout, cotton, phosphorous ink. This model volcano was  illuminated from within by 6-60 watt light bulbs.

Salt Water Falls

Model  made out of glass, plexiglass, tile grout, moss, twigs, salt, painted  canvas & dry ice. The waterfall was created from a time exposure of  falling table salt.

 Fields, After the Storm

This model is simply made out of faux fur(fields), cotton (clouds) and sifted tile grout(mountains). The perspective is forced as in all of my images, and the lighting effect was created by simply shifting the white balance.

Aurora Borealis

This one was made by photographing a beam of colored light against a black curtain to achieve the edge effect. The trees were composited from life ( so far the only real life element in any of these images) The stars are simply strobe light through holes in cork board.

Waterglass Mountains
This  one is a mixture of many different materials, tile grout, moss, bottle  brushes (pine trees) Actual clippings from ground cover and was built on  top of standard outdoor patio table (water glass). The sky is canvas  painted blue. Coloring was again achieved by shifting white balance.

Planet
This  was another experimental view of Mars. The materials are paprika,  cinnamon and chili powder (planet) and coffee and sugar (starfield) were  sifted over the floor of my studio. The planet was photographed from 12  feet in the air. Although it looked cool, I abandoned this flat method  of modeling because in the end I felt it too illustrative next to all  the other landscapes.

Wildfire
Diorama  made from wood, moss, yellow glitter, clear garbage bags, cooked sugar,  scotch-brite pot scrubbers, bottle brushes, clipping from a bush in  bloom (white flowers) clear thread, sand, tile grout (coloring), wire,  paper and alternating yellow, red and orange party bulbs.

 The Beginning
Ground  made of parsley bush clippings and moss (trees) Tile grout (mountains)  & cotton for clouds in the distance. Dry ice was used for the  atmospheric perspective.

Surprisingly or not there are very talented artists online who draw  caricatures. You can surely make a caricature for/of yourself with a  caricature maker and put it on facebook or whatever but you will surely  not make it as good as these. I’ve seen a few tutorials online of how to  make a caricature from a photo with the liquify tool in Photoshop but  I’m assuring you that it’s not the case here. In this article you’ll  find just pure art, just very good caricature drawings. 

An interesting thing is that the most used people are Hugh Laurie (Dr  House) and Bruce Willis. Probably because they have that grim face and  sometimes they tend to have curious looks. The guys or gals who have  drawn them managed to add them that cartoon look and make them pretty  funny. Enjoy the caricatures.

Killer Bird

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the Cassowaries  are the world’s most dangerous birds, capable of dealing fatal blows.  They are very unpredictable, aggressive creatures, especially if wounded  or cornered. The Cassowary lives in the rain forests of Australia and  New Guinea and are actually pretty shy animals if undisturbed, but if  you get to close and it thinks you’re a threat you could receive a  bone-breaking kick or get sliced by its dagger-like sharp claws. During  WWII, soldiers stationed in New Guinea were warned to stay away from  these birds, but some of them still became victims.

The Cassowary  is also one of the most difficult animals to keep in the Zoo because of  the frequent injuries suffered by Zoo keepers that look after them. I  like a bird that can take care of itself, but, unfortunately, this  doesn’t seem to help it very much against human cruelty and it is on the  endangered species list, along with so many others.

illusional Droste Effect images That Will Twist Your Mind

In today’s post I’m going to show you some really cool images done in “Droste effect.”  “Droste effect,” is named after a 1904 package of Droste brand cocoa.  The Droste effect illustrates a smaller version of itself in a place  where a similar photograph would realistically be expected to show. Only  in hypothesis could this go on without end, but virtually it will go on  only as long as the resolution of the image permits, which is  relatively short, since each cycle of repetition is exponentially  diminish the image’s size. 

A perfect example of the Droste effect can be simply produced by  placing two mirrors in front of each other. Another technique would be  to shoot one’s own television with a video camera, while showing the  output of the video camera on the same television.Let’s view now some of  these awesome droste effect images.

Hermit crabs are very resourceful

Now, I am sure you love hermit crabs; I think that’s why you are here  – to learn more about those lovely creatures. However, has it ever  occurred to you that these lovely creatures are actually more in the  wild than they are in captivity? How then do they manage to survive if  at all they do not have the luxury of commercial food, artificial  shells, moonlight light bulbs for breeding, and many other things that  we buy from the pet store?

Well, it would have been impossible for hermits in the wild to survive were it not for the fact that they are resourceful.

Here is how:

The hermit and its diet.

Whenever somebody thinks of taking in a crab as a pet, the first  thing that usually comes into that person’s mind is what he or she will  feed the pet with. When they are in the wild, they are not picky eaters.  They are basically omnivores, and scavengers at that. This means that  they can eat both plants and meat, which greatly increases their chances  of survival especially in time of scarcity. Some of the foods that  crabs eat include fallen fruits, brightly colored vegetables, meat of  dead animals, and so on.

The hermit and the shells.

The hermit is a pretty defenseless animal; it does not have a shell  to protect its body. For this reason, the crabs usually use the shells  of other animals such as sea snails to protect their own bodies. There  is nothing special about the seashells. They seem to be the most  convenient and available for the crabs to use. When these sea shells are  not there, crabs have been seen carrying around debris and glasses in  place of these shells. These shells also act like houses in one way or  another.

Hermit crab breeding.

 Another thing that will tell you that hermits are pretty resourceful  creatures is their pattern when it comes to breeding. When the female  hermit crab wants to lay her eggs, she usually rushes to the shore of  the ocean and then lays her eggs there. She doesn’t just go and dump  them on the shore. No. She actually makes a hole and then lays eggs  there in plenty. She then covers her eggs with sand and then leaves them  to hatch. After hatching, the baby hermits run to the ocean from where  they grow up

 All in all, crabs in the wild behave in very different ways compared to  hermit crabs that are in your house. When they are in your home, you  think of them as cute animals to stay with. From the delicate care that  they ask for, whether it is about breeding, feeding or even bathing your  hermit crabs, this image remains in your mind. However, when you look  at their lives in the wild, you end up seeing them as very resourceful  animals. This is the true hermit crab
